4. Koniamman Temple

Take a short detour to the celebrated Koniamman Temple situated to the north of the Kottai Easwaran Temple. Goddess Parasakthi in the form of Koniamman graces the temple who presents herself with eight hands holding udukkai, sword, conch, and discus, a skull, fire and a bell.

It houses the shrines of Navagrahas, Lord Muruga along with Valli and Devyani and Panchamukhi Vinayaka. A recent addition to the temple that draws attention is the 84 feet tall Rajagopuram. It is said that the Rajagopuram can be seen from any part of the city.

5. Dhyanalingam

Head to one of the most coveted sightseeing spot of Coimbatore, the Dhyanalingam located at a distance of 30 km from Coimbatore. Consecrated by famed yogic and mystic Jaggi Vasudev, this spiritual centre provides space for meditation.

Marvel at the wonderfully constructed ellipsoidal 33 feet high dome, designed by architect Satprem Maini and the Auroville Earth Institute. Built with the help of the Isha Foundation the temple was consecrated on June 24 1999.

Dhyanalingam is a combination of two words, where Dhyana means silence and Linga means form. Rising to a height of 13 feet, this Dhyanalingam made of black granite adds charm to the temple.

Sculptural reliefs and symbols of Hinduism, Islam, Christianity, Jainism, Taoism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Shinto adorn the Sarva Dharma Sthamba which greets the visitors at
the entrance.

6. Velliangiri Andavar Temple

Velliangiri Andavar Temple

Stop off at the much coveted Velliangiri Andavar Temple situated at 30 km from Coimbatore. According to legends Lord Shiva performed dance at this place as per his consort Umadevi wish.

Set beautifully on the Vellingiri Hills, the Shiva Linga here is a Swayambhu Linga that is present along with other four Shiva Lingas together called the Pancha Lingas.

Vellingiri Hills are a part of the Western Ghats that proffers a plethora of visual delights in its surroundings. Velliangiri Hills constitute seven hills among which the Thiruneermalai is formed with sand like ash. A Temple also enshrines Goddess Manomuni.

7. Patteeswarar Swamy Temple

This picturesque temple has splendid gopurams and halls, among which the Golden Hall or the Kanaka Sabhai built by the Algadri Nayak in 17th Century attracts visitors attention. It features the wonderful Golden Image of Nataraja in the dancing posture.

It proves to be a tremendous place of art with amazingly beautiful stone carvings. Mandapam opposite to the Kanakasabhai are rows of big pillars decorated with intricate carvings featuring the manifestations of Lord Shiva.

Noteworthy features of the sacred complex include the Ardha Mandapam and Maha Mandapam built during Kongu Chola period.

Palm tree and tamarind tree known as Irava Panai(deathless palm) and the Pirava Puli (birth free tree) are the holy trees located in front of the temples. It is believed that if the seed from the tamarind tree is sown it will not germinate.

According to legends a calf of the sacred cow, Kamadhenu was roaming about and was hit with a solid object. Blood started pouring from the stone and then it was found that it was a Shiva Lingam.
