1. Palani Temple

The sanctum sanctorum has the idol of Lord Dandayudhapani Swami made by Navapashanam a combination of nine components called Veeram, Vellai Pasanam, Mridharsingh, Gauri Pasanam, Kadagam, Rasam, Pooram, Jathilingam and Silasat by a famous siddhar named Bhogar. Lord Subramanya is seen in a standing form with a baton in his hand, draped in a loin cloth and adorned with jewels.

Legends state that when Sage Narada visited Lord Shiva and goddess Parvati with a vital fruit named gyana palam, it was decided that the fruit would be rewarded to one of the two sons whoever would be the first to complete three rounds of the world.

While Lord Muruga went on to accomplish the task on his vahana, Lord Ganesha circled his parents thrice stating that they were his world and claimed to have the fruit. Lord Muruga did not accept his brother’s claim to the fruit and in rage moved to Palani Hills.

Lord Shiva pacified his anger stating that he was the fruit himself as such denoting the name Pazham-nee which means he is the fruit. It is believed that the components like milk, sandal paste when used for the abhishekam gains healing properties and have cured several diseases. The temple can be reached by Steps, Elephant path, Winch facility or through ropeway.

Visitors would be delighted with the architectural grandeur of the marvellous holy temple located on Sivagiri Hills at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level.
